About Great Space

Great Space specializes in organization and inspiration. We help individuals declutter their spaces and their minds to live and work with fulfillment, clarity and joy. We collaborate with our clients, developing organizational solutions for their individual needs. Our compassionate, connected and fun approach produces not only "Great Spaces" for people, but generates a process which is truly liberating.

About Joan Franklin, Founder of Great Space

As a child, one of Joan’s favorite things was helping her mother arrange and rearrange furniture. This evolved into having a great time helping friends fix up their rooms.

Joan graduated from Pratt Institute with a BFA in Interior Design and worked in the Interior Design Department of IM Pei & Partners for three years. Her artistic eye and space planning skills continued to develop during this period. Joan received an MFA from NYU Graduate School of Film and Television. This time, the planning and arranging was for thousands of feet of film and video footage. She worked on numerous documentaries and feature films as editor, assistant editor and sound editor.

In 1999, Joan created Great Space, combining her favorite elements from interior design and film editing: organizing, art, putting things together, and collaboration. Since starting Great Space, she has helped organize entrepreneurs, teachers, retirees, artists, counselors, lawyers, and homemakers, to name a few. She is a member of NAPO, National Association of Professional Organizers.

Joan currently lives in Ashland, Oregon with her partner, David Lorenz Winston, and Kali, her miniature poodle. She spends free time with family and close friends. Art, music, nature, connected experiences and laughter are central to her life. Joan is an accomplished watercolor painter. She truly understands how being organized helps create the time and space to follow life’s passions.
